Louise Scott – Managing Director
In 2009 Louise took on the role as Managing Director of MSL. Earning her degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, she has a strong background within surface engineering and metallography. Up until 2007 Louise was the Production Manager for a Heat Treatment Plant. In 2007 Louise achieved her degree in ICT and worked at the Sage (UK) Limited up until 2009 when she returned to her roots.
Ron Scott- FREng, BSc, C.Eng, FIMMM- Technical Director
Ron Scott graduated in 1971 with BSc (Hons) in Metallurgy. After employment with the British Steel Corporation, he set up a heat treatment plant called Metaltech Ltd in 1981. In 1985 Ron established MSL, a sister company, which specialized in metallurgical consultancy and metallurgical and engineering aspects of failure investigations. His specific areas of interest include heat treatment, fatigue and wear analysis, residual stress analysis and measurement, failure investigation and engineering design.
Lovlesh Beharry, MEng (Hons) – Engineering Manager
Lovlesh graduated in 2009 with First Class MEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Newcastle University. Since joining MSL in 2010, he has actively participated in MSL’s growth. As the Engineering Manager, Lovlesh plays an important role in ensuring that MSL’s day to day activities and deliverables to its customers are of the highest quality possible.
David Tweed, FdEng – Quality Manager and HSE Officer
With a foundation degree in Mechanical Aerospace Engineering, David has taken on the role of Laboratory Controller at MSL. He is responsible for production planning, overseeing daily production of test samples, quality management and has also taken on the role of lead internal auditor. David also carries out testing of materials to determine their mechanical properties.
Arran Ledger, BEng. (Hons) – Test Engineer
Arran moved from University to Industry, in June 2021, only weeks after completion of his studies at Sunderland University. Arran graduated a month later with a First-class BEng. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. Arran plays a major part in many aspects of test work and investigational work at MSL. In addition, to his practical skill and competency with the test equipment, he is dedicated to broaden his current knowledge of the mechanical aspects of the use of materials to the aspects of material properties and manufacture. He has a major interest in the methods used for material characterisation and the relationships between method of manufacture, microstructure and mechanical properties. His current interests include the study of computational fracture mechanics by use of the finite element method (FEM), the development of fracture toughness test methods and the application and use of algorithms in the areas of metals processing and performance
Marc Erwin, BEng, (Hons) – Test Engineer
Marc graduated with a First-class BEng. (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Sunderland. Marc carries out a wide range of mechanical testing in accordance with MSL’s accredited procedures. Marc takes a leading role in the operation of the chemical analysis equipment, using Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) or X-ray Florescence (XRF) to determine the chemical composition of metals. In addition to meeting the day-to-day testing requirements, Marc is also deeply involved with the research and development within the business targeting new areas of testing and the testing of new products to broaden the range and scope of the services that MSL can offer.
